The Bel Fries NYC attack on the Lower East Side closed down the Ludlow Street restaurant.
The chaos inside Bel Fries started when customers became enraged and violent — after being told there was a $1.25 charge for extra dipping sauce for their French fries, according to the restaurant's co-ownerA late-night Lower East Side eatery has been closed for days after a wild tirade took place over the July 4th holiday weekend — all because of condiments.
The restaurant's co-owner said that he has six employees, but no one wants to come back to work because they’re traumatized and scared for their lives, he said, as they deal with physical and emotional wounds."They’re devastated. They’re afraid. One of them still doesn’t want to leave her home. She has a son. She fears for her life," said the co-owner, who did not want to share his name or show his face.
“They wanted extra sauce but didn’t want to pay for it," he said."The extra sauce is actually a buck twenty-five, buck seventy-five and it started from there, the minute they told them, 'Hey you have to leave!' Once they told them they had to leave they jumped on them.”The co-owner described to News 4 New York the extensive damage his restaurant sustained: “20-30 bottles broken, thrown at my employees, computers broken, the store was a disaster. Everything was a mess.
