Hundreds of homes were left without power for up to three hours following an incident on Westcliffe Drive
Nearly 2,000 properties in Blackpool were left without power this morning due to a fault with an underground electricity cable.
Electricity North West said they were alerted shortly before 6.30am today to reports of a power cut affecting 1,903 properties in the Westcliffe Drive area. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene and closed off the road between Norwood Avenue and Highbury Avenue. Lancashire Constabulary officers attended to manage the traffic after some of the electrical cable underneath a pavement 'sparked'. Firefighters asked people to 'avoid the area and take alternative routes where possible'.ENW said power was restored to nearly 1,500 properties within three minutes after the automated restoration systems kicked in. Engineers then carried out repair work on site for several hours and restored power to the remaining homes by 9.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: "This morning at 6:28am, we received reports of a power cut affecting 1,903 properties in Blackpool due to a fault with an underground electricity cable. Within three minutes using our automated restoration systems, power was restored to 1,485 properties and as engineers carried out repair work on site, power was restored to the remaining properties at 9:25am.
