Ben Weldon, a 10-year-old boy, has launched a headstone cleaning and relettering business called 'Guardians of the Headstones'. Inspired by cleaning his grandmother's headstone, Ben aims to restore neglected memorials. To gain initial customers, he offers free cleans in exchange for reviews and recommendations. His mother, Michelle, supports his venture and helped him establish a website. The business has gained significant attention online, with hundreds of likes and shares on Facebook. Overwhelmed by the response, Ben has decided to donate 10% of his earnings to Stevie Stones, a charity that provides headstones for families who can't afford them. Ben's initiative has been praised by the charity's founders, Barry and Naomi Graham, who see his compassion and generosity as a reflection of their late daughter, Stevie.
“This is Ben, he is just 10 and he is trying to start up a little company offering headstone cleaning and relettering”, read a post on his business' Facebook page. His mother Michelle, who helped him set up the business called ‘Guardians of the Headstones ’, called for support in helping Ben Weldon get customers.
“He looked around and saw that the other headstones looked a bit sad, with no flowers on them. So I said to him: 'Why don’t you open your own little business?'”, his mother said. His mother said it was really encouraging to see so many people come forward. According to her, the most touching thing to see was requests to clean children’s headstones.
“He is an unusual boy. It is such a selfless thing to do at 10 years old, to give some of the things you earn to charity”, he said. “To us, this is a lot more than just financial contribution.
