A donation from an Encinitas resident could change the fate of an empty city-owned lot at the heart of an affordable housing debate. KPBS North County reporter Tania Thorne says the resident will donate $100,000, but only if a park is built on the site. That's been the long and contentious debate over the empty city-owned lot located at 634 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas.
He has offered the city the money to build a park on the lot and name it after his wife, Sally Johnson. Before the city can accept the donations, the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department would need to study the feasibility of a park on the 9-acre lot.
