Sadness and anger as Knowsley-based plant to close at the end of the month
A long-standing Merseyside medical plant that employs more than 100 people will close down at the end of the month as operations are set to be moved to Costa Rica.
The GMB union has now expressed dismay at confirmation of the plant's closure this month and revealed that the operation is set to be moved to the Central American nation of Costa Rica. Ann Brady is a worker at Terumo's Knowsley site. She said: "To say this redundancy notice was quite a shock is an understatement.
A Terumo UK spokesperson said: "It is with sadness that we are closing our Merseyside site – which has been key to Terumo’s business for 26 years – on Tuesday 31 October. The closure follows an extensive consultation process with employee representatives and union officials in 2022.
