The UK government has announced a £100 million investment to support adult and children's hospices in delivering end-of-life care. The funding aims to address the financial pressures faced by hospices due to uncertainties surrounding government grants and rising business costs.

A £100 million investment has been announced to support adult and children's hospices in providing end-of-life care . This funding also includes £26 million in continued grant funding for next year, previously known as the Children's Hospice Grant. The announcement comes during the Shropshire Star's Care at Christmas campaign, which highlights the financial pressures hospices face due to the uncertainty surrounding annual government grant decisions.

Hospices are also grappling with increased costs from the national insurance rise for businesses, announced in the Budget, from which they are not exempt. Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting stated, 'Hospices provide care and support for patients and families at the most challenging times, so it is only right they are given the financial support to deliver these services. This package will ensure they can continue to provide compassionate care that everyone deserves as they approach the end of their life in the best possible environment.' Care minister Stephen Kinnock added, 'I am grateful to NHS staff and voluntary organizations, including hospices, for the deeply compassionate care and support they provide to end-of-life patients and their families. The £100 million capital investment announced today will allow hospices to improve their physical and operational environment, enabling them to provide the best possible care to their patients.' Previously, an organization representing 200 UK hospices called for an exemption from the rise in Employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs) announced in the October Budget, arguing that without such an exemption, hospices would face even further financial burdens. However, Hospice UK welcomed the latest funding announcement, stating that it will allow them to continue providing 'high-quality, compassionate care.
