Four men arrested “on suspicion of evasion of excise duty, evasion of VAT, and money laundering'
The joint HMRC and PSNI operation also saw “a number of vehicles, fuel laundering equipment and 400 litres of illegal fuel” lifted.
HMRC says that investigations into the seizure are continuing. Few details of the operation have been released, however in a statement HM Revenue and Customs added that officers “searched two premises near Newry and found 11.5 million non-UK duty paid cigarettes”. The operation took place on Monday, November 4.
“We continue to work closely with our partners to relentlessly pursue the determined minority who refuse to play by the rules.”
