UK Health Security Agency says 113 cases of E.coli since 25 May are 'part of a single outbreak'
The number of confirmed cases is ‘expected to rise as further samples undergo whole genome sequencing’, the UKHSA saidMore than 100 people have become ill with E. coli across the UK in the past two weeks and experts believe the cases are related to a nationally distributed food item.says it has carried out tests of the samples which suggest all of the 113 cases since 25 May are “part of a single outbreak”.
The cases are spread out widely making it likely the cases stem from a contaminated batch of product that people can buy around England. Trish Mannes, incident director at UKHSA, added: “Symptoms of E.coli infections include severe and sometimes bloody diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever. If you have diarrhoea and vomiting, you can take steps to avoid passing it on to family and friends.”
