The suspect took his own life, state police say.
Pennsylvania State Police say a 12-year-old girl is safe after being abducted at gunpoint in Adams County, and the suspect is dead.Video above: Headlines from News 8 at Noon.Troopers said James Kopp Jr., 53, of McSherrystown, kidnapped the girl from her property around 9:45 a.m. and took off.Just minutes after law enforcement was told to be on the lookout for him, an officer spotted his vehicle in the 5600 block of Hanover Road in Conewago Township.
Troopers said Kopp then shot himself inside the disabled vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.The girl was not injured, and she was reunited with her family.State police said they started the process to send out an Amber Alert immediately after the abduction, but it wasn't issued because the situation was resolved so quickly.
