More cold mornings are on the way as we head into winter
If you woke up to frosty car windscreens this week, you'll have had a stark reminder of the pain that early morning winter driving can bring. Who hasn't had a journey delayed by having to defrost the car windscreen before setting off?
With this in mind, Nottinghamshire Live's parent publication asked cold weather experts from Iceland, Lotus Car Rental, for their best hack when it came to keeping your windscreen clear. The answer is clever, if a little bizarre given that it uses a staple item from your kitchen cupboard. The item in question, which costs about 12p from most supermarkets, is an onion. According to the experts, onions can break down frost as soon as it forms on the window.
If using vegetables doesn't appeal to you, there are a few other tricks and tips you could try out. For example, you could try putting a bed sheet or large piece of cardboard over the windscreen to avoid it freezing over night. Another tip is to use a de-icing fluid, which can be bought at most supermarkets and petrol stations.
