“This year has been a bit of a strange one. It kind of feels like it hasn’t really happened, that we’re in some parallel universe. The omens were out within the very first moments of this year. Literally on New Year’s Day, I saw probably for the first time in a long time an overt racist incident occur, and I thought, okay, isolated incident. And I thought that was probably the worst it was going to be all year. It’s just worrying, because it’s 2020.
I marched on Sunday to the embassy and we sat down and I started chanting [George Floyd’s] name and then I didn’t even realise I was carrying it but all of a sudden, it’s like everything just poured out of my eyes. I guess the overriding emotion, I don’t even know if you could describe it as an emotion, but it’s a feeling of ‘enough is enough’.
