14 dead as plane carrying boxing fans from Canelo V Jacobs crashes into mountains
THE remains of a private jet flying boxing fans home to Mexico middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight Daniel Jacobs has been found in mountains.
The private Bombardier Challenger 601 plane went missing during a flight over the municipality of Monclova in the Mexican state of Coahuila.It almost completed its flight from Las Vegas to the city of Monterrey.The pilot's last contact with the Monterrey Area Control Centre was when the crew was flying over Minas de Hércules.
Local broadcaster Televisa reported the small twin-engine jet lost contact on Sunday with air traffic controllers sometime after 5:20 p.m. local time.The wreckage was found some 129 miles northwest of the northern city of Monclova in Coahuila, said Fernando Orta of the border state's emergency services department."The land is rather mountainous... so they're going to take a while longer to arrive," Orta said.
A Radio Centro correspondent reported the authorities had been hunting for the private Bombardier Challenger 601 plane, registration N601VH, that flew from Las Vegas to Monterrey.
