ILOILO CITY – The local government and the police have destroyed 157 modified mufflers confiscated by authorities since a crackdown was ordered in April this year.
Of the total number, 119 were seized by the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit , 31 by the Iloilo City Police Office , and seven by the city's Public Safety and Transportation Management Office.
The city government of Iloilo leads the destruction of 157 confiscated motorcycle mufflers at the Freedom Grandstand on Friday, May 17, 2024. Under the amended Anti-Modified Muffler Ordinance 2023-071, the sound level of a motor vehicle's exhaust must not exceed 99 decibels, with an exemption for motorcycles with engines over 400 cubic centimeters.The ordinance also gives authorities the power to seize modified mufflers and impose fines ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 on violators.
