British Steel is planning to replace blast furnaces at Scunthorpe with greener alternatives which require fewer workers, according to reports.
Up to 2,000 workers could lose their jobs amid plans by British Steel to close down the blast furnaces at its Scunthorpe plant, according to reports.
The reports said unions predict the move could ultimately lead to the loss of 1,500 to 2,000 jobs, predominantly at Scunthorpe.The company has been approached for comment.
