TWO persons were seriously injured when a fire engulfed a grounded passenger vessel Saturday morning off Lapu-Lapu City.The Philippine Coast Guard reported that it received a distress call regarding a fire at 2 p.m. involving MV Trans Asia 1 off Barangay Punta Engaño.The PCG said it immediately deployed a Special Operations Group team to assist the seven crew members and one security guard on board the ship.
The vessel has been grounded since December 2021 amid the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. It was learned that the crew was on board to ensure that the vessel's equipment and materials will not be stolen.During the fire incident, the PCG said two crew members were injured while they were abandoning the ship.They were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for medical assistance.The PCG said investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
