Two friends who went out to fish on the Susquehanna River on Memorial Day returned home with only one thing: a new appreciation for life.The relaxing day on the water turned into a life-or-death situation for Joel Esch and Jason Hoover when their boat began to take on water. Within minutes, it was sinking.'I thought we were pretty much done because that current is pretty wicked. And I didn't think anybody was around at first until I saw those people on that pontoon.
Fishing poles, tackle boxes and the boat were destroyed, but the two men walked away unharmed.'You know, both of our lives were spared. That's what counts,' Hoover said.They were also reminded of the importance of safety. 'Always wear your life jacket. No matter how good of a swimmer you are, that sucked. That current was wicked,' Esch said.For one of the rescuers, it was a full-circle moment.
