New cameras will be installed
A major A-road through Lancashire is set to be controlled by average speed cameras by the end of next month.
The 20 mile stretch of road is used as the main route through Over Wyre areas of the Fylde. In 2018, Lancashire County Council was awarded £7.9m to deliver improvements on the five 'high risk' routes which had been identified within the county.Funding is to be specifically targeted at delivering road upgrades and improvements with the aim of reducing the number and severity of fatal and serious injury collisions. £1.
LancsLive has been told that the cameras should become live later this year. Parts of the A588 will also see a reduction in speed limits. The current 60 mile per hour limit from Thurnham to Conder Green will drop down to 50mph. Elsewhere, a 30mph speed limit will be in place from Cemetery Lane, Preesall, from its junction with Park Lane/Hall Gate Lane/Burned House Lane for a distance of 100 metres in a westerly direction. It will also be at Hallgate Lane, Preesall, from a point 47 metres north west of its junction with the Centreline of Moss House Lane to its junction with Burned House Lane.
