There could be an extra bank holiday announced for the coronation of King Charles III
Bank holidays can offer a day off and often result in a long weekend. The widely-anticipated national public holiday dates see most shops and businesses shut, schools close and public transport services reduced.
Most bank holidays are generally around the same time every year, such as Christmas, Easter or New Years. And if the date falls on a weekend, the bank holiday is moved to a weekday instead.On special occasions, extra bank holidays can be established. This year, there were two extra bank holidays – one for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June and another for Her Majesty's state funeral last month.
