CHINA’S Ministry of Education minister Huai Jin-peng and Commission on Higher Education chair Prospero de Vera III recently met during the 2023 China-Asean Education Cooperation Week in Gui’an New District of Guizhou Province.
Both sides agreed to boost China-Philippine cooperation in science, technology, agriculture, and mathematics education, as well as expand opportunities for the two countries in digital and vocational education, language teaching, and quality assurance. Additionally, both sides have agreed on further training programs for education professionals, the digitalization of Philippine universities, and the two countries’ 2019 education-cooperation agreement implementation.
According to the Chinese Embassy, education cooperation between China and the Philippines has expanded in recent years with the establishments of Confucius Institutes in the latter, including Filipino learners studying under the Chinese government and ambassador scholarships, as well as academic exchanges conducted for university studies between both countries.
Ambassador Huang Xilian expressed his delight that this year’s Education Cooperation Week will not only deepen China-Asean cooperation, but “also open more opportunities for China-Philippine education partnerships and linkages.”
