2024 Lexus GX Wants To Fight The Land Rover Defender For Off-Road Luxury Supremacy
Keeping its body-on-frame structure, the Lexus GX moves to the TNGA GA-F platform contributing to better durability and reliability, on top of being a formidable off-roader. Designed as “The Premium Off-Roader,” it packs two powertrain options—a 349 horsepower and 650 Nm 3.4-liter twin turbo V6 and, for the first time in a Lexus body-on-frame vehicle, a 2.4-liter turbo hybrid. No power outputs were revealed, but it’ll likely around 272 horsepower and 460 Nm.
Full-time all-wheel drive comes as standard, with the off-road-centric Overtrail grade adding an electronic locking rear differential. Inside, the Lexus GX has a lower, horizontal instrument panel design with a standard 14-inch multimedia display. Physical dials and controls still remain, while the driver gets a 12.3-inch gauge cluster. The seats have been reworked to aid in comfort, while the second row is now available in both a bench or captain’s seat configurations. Either way, it has a one-touch tumble system allowing access to the third row. The third row itself is available in both manual or power adjust.
