The International Olympic Committee has confirmed that the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will go ahead as planned, despite the city being ravaged by wildfires.
A decision has reportedly been made regarding the future of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles , despite ongoing wildfires ravaging parts of the city. Five separate blazes have ripped through the LA area this month, with firefighters tirelessly battling to contain them. Tragically, over 12,000 structures have been lost to the infernos, including multi-million dollar homes belonging to numerous high-profile individuals. The wildfires have wrought extensive damage across sections of Los Angeles .
There were concerns that the cost of hosting the Olympics, with each city allocated a budget of around $7 billion, would be exorbitant against the backdrop of rebuilding efforts in LA, estimated to cost around $275 billion. However, according to Scott Young, SVP Content, Productions and Business Operations for the European sports branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has asserted that the Olympics, scheduled for July 2028, will proceed as planned. Young stated, 'There is no noise or discussion right now that it will have any impact on LA 2028.'He emphasized that the immediate focus is on the devastation caused by the fires, with no discussions concerning the potential impact on the games. Young further clarified that no crucial infrastructure has been significantly affected, thus dispelling any concerns about rebuilding necessities for the Olympic Games.
