The devolved payment is designed to help families with higher heating and energy costs over the winter.
Social Security Scotland have announced that one-off payments of £235.70 have started going out to around 29,000 disabled children and young people across the country. The annual Child Winter Heating Payment is unique to Scotland and designed to help families of disabled young people under the age of 19 with higher fuel costs over the colder months.
Scotland’s welfare system also said that eligible families will receive a letter to confirm they are entitled to the payment and money will be paid into the same account as their qualifying benefits. Nobody on a qualifying benefit needs to apply separately to get the payment, however, in certain circumstances some people may need to make a claim - find out more about this here.
Top Money Stories Today Eligibility for the winter 2023/24 payment Children and young people in Scotland can get the heating payment if they are under 19-years-old and were claiming one of the qualifying benefits during the qualifying week of 18-24 September, 2023. Families will receive a letter of confirmation to coincide with the payment being made, but just be aware that sometimes the payments can arrive before the letter.
