A terrifying experience
The wave of suspected needle spiking attacks in Nottingham will be covered in the latest episode of 24 Hours in A&E. The Channel 4 show, to be aired tonight , follows three female university students who are all suspected victims and get treatment at the city's Queen's Medical Centre.
It was filmed in October 2021, when a surge of needle spikings were reported across the UK, resulting in an urgent report being ordered by the Home Secretary. Nottingham was at the epicentre, with 146 reports being made in two months. Kate, one of the three students, all of whom study in Nottingham, is rushed to resus after collapsing outside a nightclub. The 20-year-old stopped breathing normally and received CPR from a friend.Nurse Sarah, who treats Kate, also reveals her own experience of having her drink spiked when she was a student. Students Sarah and Pavni also meet in the urgent treatment department after attending due to concerns over being spiked with needles on a night out.
While they are being treated, 19-year-old Pavni reveals the racist abuse she faced growing up and Sarah, 21, discusses the impact of Covid on university life.
