THE trial of 23 of the 25 individuals accused of giving financial support to the New People’s Army in Negros Oriental faces delay as the court deferred their arraignment on Thursday, June 27, 2024.This comes after the 25 individuals filed a petition asking the Secretary of Justice to review the case against them, as allegations from the military are not supported by evidence, according to Mel Ebo, legal counsel for some of the accused.
However, the number of accused has decreased to 25 as the other two are deceased, according to Ebo.The Visayas Command filed a complaint against Cernet, which provides small funds to people’s organizations and capacitates them according to their projects, for violating RA 10168 before the Department of Justice in September 2023.
