28 Days Later writer Alex Garland admits the movie is a zombie movie.

However, one of the creatives has finally weighed in, with the cult movie's screenwriter Alex Garland giving his opinion about it. The reason for the ambiguity of whether it is or isn't a zombie movie is because there aren't really any28 Days Later follows a pandemic caused by the accidental release of a contagious virus named The Rage, but the infected don't die and then come back to life like a typical zombie.

However, they do exhibit zombie-like aggressive behaviour and spread the disease by biting victims, though, so that's where the debate comes in.."Over whether or not it's a zombie movie.""It's a zombie movie," he said."Whatever technical discrepancies may or may not exist, they're pretty much zombies."
