No apparent damage.' Haven Hatch, another resident, recounted how the shaking prompted her boss to tell her to get out of the house, fearing it might be a furnace explosion. Christine Savini from Milton, Massachusetts, said her home shook so violently she thought her furnace had exploded. 'I thought the cause may have been an earthquake because I was once in San Francisco when there were tremors, and the house vibrated violently,' she explained.The earthquake, while not considered destructive, was a notable event for New England, which experiences smaller earthquakes less frequently than regions like California. John Ebel, a senior research scientist at the Weston Observatory, called it a 'once-in-five-year event.'
