The deans were placed on leave earlier this summer pending an investigation into the matter.

Three Columbia University deans accused of sending each other antisemitic messages have resigned from their positions, a source familiar with the matter told The National Desk Thursday.on indefinite leave by the school. In a letter to the school that month, Columbia President Minouche Shafik explained the three deans had exchanged “very troubling” text messages during a campus event titled “Jewish Life on Campus: Past, Present, and Future.

“This incident revealed behavior and sentiments that were not only unprofessional, but also, disturbingly touched on ancient antisemitic tropes,” she wrote. “Whether intended as such or not, these sentiments are unacceptable and deeply upsetting, conveying a lack of seriousness about the concerns and the experiences of members of our Jewish community that is antithetical to our University’s values and the standards we must uphold in our community.

The Washington Free Beacon shared images of the alleged messages, which depict one administrator texting the vomiting emoji and another suggesting a Jewish speaker was taking “full advantage” of “huge fundraising potential.” Columbia College Dean Josef Sorett reportedly later called the police on a Free Beacon reporter who knocked on his door.Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, said in June she was “appalled” to learn of the messages.

“I was appalled, but sadly not surprised, to learn Columbia administrators exchanged disparaging text messages during a panel that discussed antisemitism at the University,” Rep. Foxx wrote. “Dean Josef Sorrett’s weak private ‘apology’ to the College’s Board of Visitors shows that the school doesn’t get it. Columbia’s Jewish community deserves better than this.”Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news. Have a news tip? Send it to [email protected].
