The ETIAS travel authorisation was expected to come into place in 2024, however, the launch date has been postponed to 2025

Spain, Italy and France are amongnthe participating European countries where British citizens will be required to register for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System in order to enter.

It will be a mandatory requirement for visa-exempt nationals under major new travel rules. Those with a valid ETIAS can enter the select 30 countries as often as they want for short-term stays. This is normally for up to 90 days in any 180 day period. The ETIAS travel authorisation had been expected expected to come into effect next year, however, the European Council has postponed the launch date to 2025.

In their latest update, the collegiate body said: "The new roadmap for the delivery of the new IT architecture foresees that the Entry/Exit system will be ready to enter into operation in Autumn 2024 and that ETIAS will be ready to enter into operation in Spring 2025." How do I apply for an ETIAS and how much will it cost? You can fill out the application form using either ETIAS website or the ETIAS mobile application, the ECHO reports. It costs seven euros . Anyone travelling from the UK should complete their ETIAS application 96 hours prior to their departure date.

The authorisation is sent by email in the form of a PDF document. The ETIAS is stored electronically against the passport.
