The latest development in the ongoing renovations of Big Ben is a colour swap – changing the clock face from black to blue in keeping with its original design.
The hands and detailing were blue when it was built in 1859, but London's smog and grime gradually turned it black, so in the 1980s, the last time it got a new coating, it was painted black to avoid discolouration.
