NYPD holds Police Memorial Dedication Ceremony
The NYPD has added more than three dozen new names to its memorial honoring officers who died in the line of duty — with Mayor Eric Adams saying the fallen watered “the tree of freedom” with their blood.

He specifically mentioned two NYPD detectives: Lawrence J. Bromm, who was shot during a 1977 investigation and remained paralyzed until his 2022 death, and Troy Patterson, who succumbed after spending three decades in a catatonic state following anThen-Mayor Bill de Blasio and former Police Commissioner Bill Bratton hail NYPD Detective Lawrence Bromm and his family at the gravely wounded hero’s retirement from the 78th Precinct in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, in June 2014.
Also in attendance was the family of Lt. Timothy Coyne, an 18-year NYPD veteran who died of cancer on Aug. 12, 2021.
