Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has approved plans for 48 new social homes on Carnagat Road, a multi-million pound investment by developer Kelly Brothers Ltd. The development will consist of 24 modern social houses and 24 apartments with a mix of two and three-bedrooms, all meeting LifeTime Homes standards. The project aims to provide much-needed housing for families on long waiting lists and create a high-quality living environment.

The plans for 48 new social homes in Newry have been hailed as a "significant step forward" in tackling the housing crisis.

A high-quality planting scheme will be employed through the development to complement the existing greenery, creating an improved natural separation from Daisy Hill Wood, delivering an attractive and high-quality living environment for future residents. New shared open spaces throughout the development will create opportunities for outdoor use and exercise, supporting resident’s physical health and quality of life.

“I welcome the Council’s decision and the efforts made from both the applicant and the council to ensure the project meets the needs of the local community, given the pressing demand for social housing in the Newry area of 558 new home between 2024 – 2028.”
