Another day, another bettering for Leeds Rhinos who looked like a poor and ultimately dispirited team in tonight’s 40-10 defeat at St Helens.
Rhinos led early, worked hard and defended their hearts out, but trailed 12-6 at half-time because of two bad errors. Back to back tries - the first following a six-again needlessly conceded on the final tackle at the start of the second half - allowed Saints to go two converted tries clear and from then on it was a matter of how wide the margin would finish.
Matt Frawley intercepted Jack Welsby’s kick with clear territory ahead. He didn’t have the legs to go all the way, but rather than taking the tackle threw a wild pass aimed at Handley which Makinson snapped up, then Konrad Hurrell put Sione Mata’utia over and Mark Percival converted. Handley would have scored of the pass had found him, but Frawley should have held on.
