Jorry Baclor, chief of AFP public affairs office, said Sunday, Feb. 26, that the operations conducted by the military units in Visayas and Mindanao were part of the continuous focused military operations of the AFP to eliminate internal security threats. Infantry Battalion and nine armed men in Brgy. San Andres, Borongan, Eastern Samar on Feb. 18. The operation also resulted in the discovery of an anti-personnel mine from the rebels.
Elements of Joint Task Force Central killed alleged BIFF leader Abdulkarem Lumbatan Hasem and another unidentified BIFF member in an encounter in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat on Feb. 19. “Abdulkarem Hasim commanded the BIFF-Karialan faction and has existing warrants of arrest for his involvement in various atrocities such as double murder and multiple frustrated murders,” Baclor said. Division Reconnaissance Company and 32Baclor also said that 29 alleged supporters of the NPA surrendered to the Army’s 1st Brigade Combat Team in Brgy. Pigcalagan in Sultan Kudarat on Feb. 21.
