From kids’ snacks to wildlife feeders, there’s loads you can do with your pumpkin both before and after Halloween.
Environmental charity Hubbub is on a mission to help families make the most of pumpkins and save money.
And there are lots of other ways to make use of your pumpkins after fright night, including changing how you decorate them. Rather than you carving a scary face – which will cause your pumpkin to spoil more quickly – get your child to paint one using non-toxic paint. Or you can help your child cut out eyes, a nose and a ghoulish mouth from a piece of black card and attach them to your pumpkin instead.
Top tip: you’ll need to keep them inside to start with so they don’t get too cold. Check out the Royal Horticultural Society site for loads of tips on how to grow your own pumpkins from seeds. When you’ve made your chutney, leave it to cool before spooning into jars. Decorate them with ribbons and homemade tags for a lovely Christmas gift.
So no matter what type of pumpkin you have or what part you're trying to reuse, there are easy, creative and inventive solutions to make use of it this Halloween.
