He had come to Memphis the day before to help striking sanitation workers rally for better wages and safer working conditions. The night of April 3, speaking extemporaneously to an overflow crowd at the Mason Temple, he gave what became his prophetic final speech, urging his audience, 'We've got to give ourselves to this struggle until the end. 'We've got some difficult days ahead,' he warned
