The Light Blues boss has plenty on his plate ahead of a crucial run of matches.
A 1-0 defeat to Celtic has heaped pressure on the Ibrox boss after an inconsistent start to the Premiership season that also brought a defeat to Kilmarnock, and a 5-1 humbling in Champions League playoff action against PSV. They return after the international break with an away clash at St Johnstone – who held Celtic to a goalless draw at Parkhead last month – before a tough Europa League group stage opener versus Real Betis.
A full 90-minute performance has not been displayed by Rangers yet and perhaps that was to be expected given the volume of recruits that were brought in. But that settling-in period trope will only hold so long before it no longer washes, and it may have already arrived. Triple threat It was out with the old and in with the new this summer but one area that hasn't changed all that much is the defence. When fit, the back four remains James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Borna Barisic, with all but the former Hearts man in central defence a part of Steven Gerrard's title-winning side.
