Councillors spent hours debating proposals before voting for a scaled-down version which will be built on a city centre car park
Perth and Kinross councillors have voted to build Perth 's new replacement leisure facility PH2O at Thimblerow Car Park.
The PH2O proposal was first mooted over a decade ago. It was then shelved whilst other projects such as the £150 million Cross Tay Link Road, £80 million replacement Perth High School and £27 million Perth Museum took precedence and finances were stretched. Project manager John Fyfe said: "It would be extremely challenging. You'd immediately lose most of the car parking and I don't think any contractor would be comfortable with the amount of visitors going across the construction site. Overall, I think it would be more straightforward for the contractor to build on Thimblerow."
He argued they could use heat exchange units if the pool and ice rink operated side by side saving a "huge amount" of energy.
