Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire drivers are being urged to report the worst potholes in their area as funding worth nearly £76 million is announced. Councils are being told they must "get on with the job" of fixing potholes after the money was confirmed for the financial year beginning in April 2025.
"This funding will not only repair and upgrade some of the worst-affected roads in the country, but will also help drivers save money on vehicle repairs caused by potholes and improve safety for motorcyclists and cyclists, reducing the risk of accidents. I look forward to working closely with our four constituent councils to ensure that these improvements deliver real benefits for residents across the East Midlands."The East Midlands money comes as part of a record £1.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer says there is a "clear expectation" for councils to get on with fixing potholes and that 25% of the funding increase will be held back until authorities can prove they are delivering. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: "Potholes have plagued motorists for far too long, but today's record investment will start to reverse a decade of decline on our country's roads.
