Whoever takes over the club needs to ensure the women's team factors into their thinking

Amidst a backdrop of unprecedented points deductions, financial woes and takeover uncertainty, Sean Dyche's side defied the odds to maintain the club's proud top-flight status for another year, ultimately finishing in 15th place. For the women's team, too, the campaign has not been without its difficulties.

But, while the Blues can go into the summer with renewed optimism for next season, it is imperative the club ensure this is only the start for Sorensen's promising young side. The Everton boss has been candid about the fact he and his staff have had to walk a precarious financial tightrope during his two years at the club.

However, with next season set to be the first time all 12 Women's Super League teams are backed by a Premier League club following Crystal Palace's promotion from the Championship, the competitiveness of the division is likely to get even higher.

"Working within such tight financial parameters makes the job extremely difficult," Everton's director of football, Kevin Thelwell, wrote in an open letter to fans earlier this month. "Whilst we want to ensure that the team is as competitive as possible, we cannot lose sight of our central objective to protect the long-term stability of the club.
