It was a busy month in the courts
Two awful rape cases were heard in court this month - both unconnected - involving attacks on strangers. One concerned the prosecution of rapist Andre Ivanov, who was just 18 years old when he targeted his victim as she walked alone in Newark.
Following this, another sex offender Junaid Zaman, 25, of Wollaton Hall Drive, Lenton, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault. He struck at night when he asked his victims for directions in the Lenton area. One of the householders, a 78-year-old man, was hit with a mallet after he and his partner were taken out of bed and had their hands bound with zip ties during the frightening ordeal which lasted about two hours.
And robber David Lafferty was jailed after he wore a black bin bag over his face whilst stealing cash from a petrol station in Sutton-in-Ashfield. He admitted attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, attempting to incite a girl to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to cause a child to look at an image of sexual activity.
