Rising grocery bills are the second most pressing financial issue for squeezed consumers, behind only energy costs, with households having to find more than £800 to pay for their supermarket bills if they buy the same items as one year ago. “Our latest research shows that grocery price inflation is the second most important financial issue for the public behind energy costs, with two-thirds of people concerned by food and drink prices, above public sector strikes and climate change.
Andrew Forsey, national director of the hunger charity Feeding Britain said it was becoming a “near impossible” challenge for people on low incomes to buy enough to cover their needs and the hefty rises demonstrated why people “of all ages, including working families” continued to seek out help to put food on the table.
