Following the fatal stabbings of three young children in Southport, violent riots erupted in Southport and Liverpool. 88 individuals have been sentenced to a total of 182 years and four months in prison for their role in the disturbances.
The actions of scores of men, women and children over the course of a matter of days last summer led to them being locked up for almost 200 years. Violent scenes unfolded in Southport on the evening of Tuesday, July 30 2024, following the fatal stabbings of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice DaSilva Aguiar. Similar disturbances then unfolded in Liverpool city centre and Walton the following Saturday, August 3.
This has led to a total of 88 rioters being sentenced to 182 years and four months behind bars to date, and the ECHO has now taken a look at some of those who found themselves in the dock of Liverpool Crown Court. Derek Drummond punched a police officer in the face then said he 'let the kids down'. He was handed three years behind bars. Declan Geiran attempted to set fire to a police van near St George's Hall. He was locked up for 30 months after admitting violent disorder and arson. Liam Riley called one officer a 'traitor and a Muslim lover' during the disorder. He pleaded guilty to violent disorder and racially aggravated threatening behaviour and was jailed for 20 months. John O'Malley was said to have been 'active in and at the heart of the violence'. He was locked up for 32 months. William Morgan armed himself with a wooden bat and formed 'part of a large mob'. The 69-year-old was jailed for 32 months. Brothers Adam and Ellis Wharton broke into the torched Spellow Library. They were jailed for 20 and 11 months respectively. He admitted possession of a bladed article in a public place and breaching a suspended sentence order and was jailed for two year
