Mobile County prosecutors on Wednesday played four 911 calls related to a fatal traffic wreck that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man in Semmes.
They are just a fraction of the calls that came in between 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on April 28, according to testimony in Mobile County District Court. After hearing those calls and testimony from four witnesses, District Judge George Zoghby ordered Antonio Antonio Rodas to be jailed without bail under Aniah’s Law. The 29-year-old Guatemalan, who authorities contend was in the United States illegally, stands charged with murder in the death of Adam Luker.
Before the crash, several people called 911 to report a white SUV driving on the wrong side of the road, weaving in and out of traffic. One reported the driver seemed drunk. Another said he was driving like a “maniac.” She added: “It was terrible. They’re – they are out of control. …They passed Snow Road. They almost clipped the front of my truck.”
Mims testified that blood taken from Rodas at the hospital on the day of the crash indicated that the defendant had a .30 blood alcohol content. That is nearly four times the legal limit in Alabama. He said the SUV had several bottles of beer, some open and some unopened.
