State officials say the emerald ash borer has been found in North Dakota. North Dakota is the 37th state where the dreaded beetle has spread. The insect has killed many millions of ash trees in the U.S. since it was first found in 2002 in Michigan. The invasive beetle comes from Asia.

The invasive insect originates from Asia and has killed many millions of ash trees across the U.S. It was first found in 2002 in Michigan. For years, North Dakota officials prepared for the beetle’s arrival by placing and checking traps and promoting awareness, state Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said.
