The Texas Historical Commission adds Fort Martin Scott in Fredericksburg to its list of historical sites.
A fort dating to the early days of Texas and the Hill Country has joined an exclusive club of state historical sites. Fort Martin Scott , which was the first frontier military post in Texas, will be the 39th entry in the Texas Historical Commission 's list of historic sites, joining a group that includes state battlefields, Spanish missions, ranches, cemeteries and historic homes.

The U.S. Army used the fort from 1848 until its closure in 1853, according to the Texas Historical Commission.

A gift shop will soon be added to the property, according to the historical commission.
