People in the town were sad to hear of the impending closure

There’s sadness in Beeston as an outdoor sports shop is due to close this week. Magic Mountain at New Vernon House on Vernon Avenue, which has been in the town for a number of years, currently has a closing down sale.

Site manager for Magic Mountain, David Website, said the shop would close at the end of the week, adding: "Our landlord changed and the new one [landlord] is property developer who wants to build flats.”Magic Mountain sells items such as water bottles, men and women’s outdoor clothing and more. Although the physical shop will be closed, Magic Mountain will still operate online..

Paul added: “As soon as building become vacant or there’s a bit of land, it shouldn’t always be turned into flats.” Retired Alistair James, 60, and from Beeston, said: “It’s been here for a while [Magic Mountain] I wish them well there’s not another shop like this in Beeston, especially an independent one so it’s a shame.”

Teaching assistant Carrie Darton, who is 43 and lives in Beeston, said: “My boys are going camping soon so my husband picked them up a few bits from Magic Mountain. It is a shame it’s one of those shops that come in handy. I’m sick of hearing of everything turning into flats in Beeston.”
