An Abbey Hey resident picks up the pieces after his house was struck by a stolen car
A care worker who was on the cusp of selling his house has had his plans left in tatters after men driving a stolen car smashed into his living room.
"There was a big bang," he told the Manchester Evening News. "I thought it could have been the storm or something falling on the roof. The whole house shook like there'd been an earthquake. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and several driving offences, after a car was reported stolen from an address on Butterton Drive and subsequently crashed into a property on Harrop Street shortly before 6.15am today .
"For a moment I thought he was there so I rushed to that room, saw smoke and dust and my car alarm was blaring. I was panicking that there would be a fire. It could have been so much worse." "Gurmeet saw me freezing outside and she took me in," he smiled. "She brought me tea and biscuits, even made me some daal. It's a good community on this street, we always help each other.""I have lived here since 2016 and had made up my mind that I was going to move," he said. "I had the house surveyed and it was going up for sale next month. I can't do that now.
At least his car - which was parked on the drive and side-swiped during the crash - was insured. He hopes to have a courtesy car delivered on Monday.
