The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “A carriage building business was a kind of predecessor to today's car dealerships.“The Watford Carriage Works was at the corner of Queens Road and Prince Street, a business established in 1837.“It had been run by W. Tucker since the 1870s and by 1891, at the time of this image, there was a large showroom on the ground floor of the main building, with all aspects of carriage construction being carried out in workshops on the premises.
