'The safest amount is none'
Lancashire's police cells were filled with motorists who got behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs this weekend.
Det Ch Insp Matt Wilmott said: "It is people taking cannabis or cocaine, or people who have had an awful lot to drink - not just a bit over the limit but three, four or even more times over. We have to ask why someone who has had that much to drink thinks it's okay to drive, or the people who are with them think it's acceptable."If you are out having a good time and decide to stay longer than you planned, that is the time to make a plan of how you are getting home.
In total over the weekend 22 people were arrested for impaired driving, with six of those for drug-driving, 13 of those for drunk-driving and three for either failing to give a sample or being over the limit for both alcohol and drugs. “We know the majority of people would never dream of committing this kind of offence, but to those who do we say this: it is never, ever worth it.
