The closure stretches between the B6325 at North Muskham and the A46 at Winthrope near Newark -on-Trent. National Highways has advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.
In a statement on X , posted just before 5pm, they said: "Lane 2 is closed on the A1 Nottinghamshire southbound between B6325 & A46 near Newark-on-Trent following a collision. Long delays of at least 60 minutes on approach with 5 miles of congestion.
